Libraries and Reading
Each part of the La Garenne campus has its own library. In 'Academia' and 'Millennium', the teaching areas for primary and middle school students, the library is a welcoming space for them to discover the joys of reading for pleasure. At Le Roc, there are well-stocked libraries on the ground and first floors.
These spaces are full of light and perfect for individual quiet study or learning support lessons. There are breath-taking panoramic views of alpine peaks, with study tables and a carpeted lounge area with sofas. The book collection includes world literature - novels, picture books, comic books, myths and legends, poetry and plays - plus magazines, reference volumes and dictionaries.
Beyond the libraries, we actively encourage all our students to develop a love of reading. Supported reading happens in the classroom during the day and in the boarding houses in the evening. For day students, a reading diary is filled in on a weekly basis. Library books are circulated around school, and any book a student needs for their studies can be acquired quickly.
Reading Cloud is an online reading community, linking real and virtual reading experiences to improve literacy standards and develop core reading skills. Students can search the catalogue to discover print resources and eBooks, all of which have been carefully selected to support the curriculum and to encourage reading for pleasure.
