At Le Roc we try our best to make students feel at home, and an important part of this is celebrating their birthdays. This term we have celebrated the birthdays of Nikita, Myriam, Evgeny, Sofia, Myriam, Dameli and Donya, who not only turned 18 but also has celebrated a decade at La Garenne!
Our athletes have taken part in a number of fixtures already this year, from football to volleyball, from our in-house chess competition to a golf tournament hosted in Villars. We are part of SGIS (Swiss Group of International Schools), which gives us access to sports competitions all over the country. Closer to home, we compete against other MLS schools (Mountain Lake Association). We are very proud of all our students who represent our school and constantly demonstrate their commitment to fair play.
In order to encourage our players, we arranged workshops for padel and basketball. We also set up a football training week with Juventus FC. Our students made the most of these opportunities, gaining experience and key skills.
Last, but not least, our students took part in a House IceBreaker event and a school challenge that consisted of running up to 10 km!
Our prefects and a group of students came back to school a couple of days early this term in order to welcome new students. We know how challenging starting in a new environment can be, so we all worked hard to make the transition as smooth as possible. We organised a scavenger hunt and we showed off our beautiful surroundings, our facilities, our students’ favourite restaurants and key places in Villars. We congratulate all our new students for settling in so well.
After a very long period out of school, we are happy to welcome back the students and hope that they are happy to see their friends again. We are proud of the effort they all made to work well and that the distance learning programme met their needs. With only a few weeks left and the end of term assessments on the horizon, they will have a busy few weeks ahead. We wish them the best of luck.
This weekend we held our first on-line international cooking club and it was a fantastic experience for all. The students received a list of ingredients and utensils required a week earlier and on Saturday, they all met up with Paula for their cooking club. After the club, the students sent in pictures of their cakes. A great experience for all and a big thank you to the parents who were also present to help some of the students!
