French Section

Dans la classe des loups, les élèves sont allés au magasin avec leur liste pour acheter les ingrédients nécessaires à la confection de sushis qu'ils ont ensuite réalisés sous l'oeil connaisseur de Noé.

C'était très bon !

English Section

The Monkeys class started the week by getting to know each other, whilst practising their speaking skills. In groups, they played a ‘Getting to know you’ board game and had to answer different questions about themselves along the way!

On Wednesday, the Monkeys were talking and writing about themselves using adjectives to describe their appearance and that of family members. They also attempted to draw the other side of a photo of their own face, in order to help them with their descriptions!

We have also been looking at word classes and the Monkeys have been sorting words, to identify the nouns, verbs and adjectives. This was a paired activity, which meant the children had to work together and communicate in English.

Today we have been working on the topic of houses and where we live. The Monkeys have labelled the rooms in a typical house and written about objects in each room, using sentences that begin with ‘there is or there are’. They also answered questions in a listening exercise on the topic of houses.

We also read the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and the children worked in small groups to retell the story using a story map and then present it orally to the class.

BEAR CUBS

Our youngest Summer Camp students have had a busy morning improving their English spoken language and writing skills. The children have been working on their fine motor skills, drawing and labelling pictures, learning new vocabulary and using the resources and games to extend their conversational skills.

Their class teacher Kirsty is from England, she has been teaching for over 15 years, and is the Reception teacher here at La Garenne during the school academic year. Kirsty plays the clarinet and piano and enjoys singing, walking and the outdoors.

Welcome! Bienvenue!

The students spent a busy morning getting to know one another and their teachers. They took a tour of the school and enjoyed using the school games and equipment at break time. The students each completed an assessment to check that they are in the right class for their level.

Class starts at 08:30 each morning, there is a break from 10:00 - 10:30 and then class from 10:30 - 12:00. Students who have signed up for one-to-one private lessons will begin tomorrow and these take place before or after their lunch.

Students can spend each morning improving either their English or French with our enthusiastic teachers. This year we have 7 English teachers and 5 French teachers.

End of Year Events

The School Year 2017-2018 has come to a close. Since September, the whole school community has moved forward, learning and experiencing many new things. The students are not the same as they were at the start of the year - the wide variety of learning opportunities and activities they have experienced has allowed them all to grow and develop.

As is the tradition, the end of the school year was marked with two days of celebrations. On Friday the parents, students, staff and teachers were entertained by two fantastic school shows – one offered by the Cubs and Minis and the other by the Junior students. This was followed by a reception in the gardens of La Garenne for the whole school community. Congratulations to all those who performed and who were involved of the organisation of this memorable occasion.

Saturday was a more formal event, introduced by the Director, Grégory Méan. The students of the Dance Club then provided a beautiful dance performance, which was much appreciated by the audience, particularly by the very proud parents of the dancers.  The Pastoral Head, the Head of Primary and the Head Teacher then reviewed the highlights of the year and looked forward to the year ahead in each of their domains. The highlight of the morning for many was the Awards Ceremony, celebrating the achievements of the students in the various academic subjects and other aspects of school life over the course of the school year. Congratulations all those who received awards – and hopefully those who did not win a prize this year will be inspired to greater things in 2018-2019.

A series of speeches, sometimes quite emotional, were then delivered by some of the Year 9 students who are leaving La Garenne. We wish the whole class all the very best for the future in their new schools.  The Director closed the ceremony by looking ahead to 2018-2019, outlining the themes for the coming school year and the various trips and visits that will be taking place.

The end-of-year celebrations are always very much a family occasion, and this was no exception. May we wish you all the very best for the summer!
